When I was six years old, my family moved into a house that looked like a dream come true. It was big, beautiful, and strangely cheap. We thought we had found the perfect home…
Until the first night I saw something standing in my sister’s room.
Chapter 1 – The House We Were Excited To Call Home
I was six years old when my family moved to a new country, and at that age, everything felt like an adventure.
My father had accepted a new job opportunity overseas, so we left behind everything familiar and moved into a large old house on the edge of a quiet neighborhood.
To a child, the place looked like a dream.
It had huge rooms, a massive backyard, and enough space for my sisters and me to run around for hours.
The best part?
It was affordable.
My parents always joked that we got incredibly lucky finding such a beautiful house at such a low price.
At the time, nobody questioned why.
We were just happy.
The first few weeks were perfect.
We explored every corner of the house, made friends, started a new school, and slowly built a new life.
I remember thinking we had found the perfect place.
But there was something about that house I couldn’t explain.
Sometimes, when I walked through the empty hallways, I felt like I wasn’t completely alone.
I ignored the feeling.
After all, I was just a kid with a big imagination.
Or at least…
That’s what I believed.
Until the first night something happened.
Chapter 2 – The Shadow In My Room
The first strange night started like any normal night.
My sister and I shared a bedroom upstairs. We usually stayed awake talking about school, friends, and random things kids worry about.
But that night, we were exhausted.
Within minutes, we both fell asleep.
Sometime after midnight, I woke up.
My throat was dry, and I wanted a glass of water.
The room was completely dark.
As I slowly sat up, I looked toward my sister’s bed.
And froze.
She was sitting upright.
At least…
Something that looked like her was sitting there.
I couldn’t see her face. Only a dark silhouette against the wall.
Before I could say her name, she suddenly dropped back onto the bed.
Not gently.
She slammed down like someone had pushed her.
I told myself she was probably just moving in her sleep.
Then it happened again.
She sat up.
Fast.
Almost like she was pulled upward.
Then she fell back down.
Again.
And again.
The bed shook with every movement.
My heart started racing.
I wanted to call out.
I wanted to move.
But my body wouldn’t listen.
I just lay there, staring at the shadow in the darkness.
After what felt like hours, it stopped.
The room became completely silent.
Then my sister slowly turned her head toward me.
That’s when fear took over.
I closed my eyes as tightly as I could, hoping it was just a nightmare.
A few seconds passed.
I finally opened my eyes.
And there she was.
Still sitting on the bed.
Facing me.
But something was wrong.
I couldn’t see her face.
Only darkness.
My breathing became heavier.
I wanted to scream, but my voice disappeared.
Then, somehow, I forced myself to move.
I jumped out of bed and ran toward her.
The moment I reached her…
Everything was normal.
My sister was lying down, peacefully asleep.
The shadow was gone.
I shook her awake.
“Wake up! Something is wrong!”
She looked at me, confused and annoyed.
“What are you doing?”
I told her everything.
She stared at me for a moment…
Then laughed.
“You seriously believe that?”
I didn’t laugh.
I wanted to run to my parents’ room, but I couldn’t leave her alone.
So I went back to bed.
That night, I didn’t sleep.
I watched my sister until sunrise.
Nothing happened.
But one thing was certain…
The house no longer felt like home.
Chapter 3 – The House Was Different
After that night, I tried convincing myself it was just a bad dream.
For a few days, everything seemed normal.
But the feeling never left.
The house that once felt exciting suddenly felt cold and unfamiliar. The long hallways seemed darker, and every small noise made me look twice.
I started avoiding certain rooms and begged my parents to move.
They just laughed.
“You’re watching too many scary movies,” my dad said.
Maybe he was right.
Maybe it was just my imagination.
Until one morning…
I woke up to my mother’s scream.
She was standing at the bottom of the stairs, staring at me in complete horror.
I was hanging upside down from the second-floor railing.
I had no idea how I got there.
My father rushed over and grabbed my legs just before I fell.
That was the day my parents realized something was seriously wrong.
The doctors called it sleepwalking.
But deep down…
I knew there was something about that house I couldn’t explain.
Chapter 4 – The Night Everyone Became Afraid
After the sleepwalking incident, my parents stopped laughing.
The doctors said it was common for children and blamed it on stress, nightmares, or exhaustion.
But it kept happening.
Almost every few nights, I would wake up somewhere I didn’t remember going.
Near the stairs.
In the hallway.
Once, standing outside my bedroom door.
My parents became worried.
They removed anything dangerous, locked certain areas at night, and watched me more closely.
But my mother had another fear.
She was deeply religious, and she started wondering if there was something more happening.
One evening, she quietly told my father,
“What if this isn’t just sleepwalking?”
My father didn’t answer.
Because honestly…
He was starting to wonder the same thing.
A few days later, they called someone from the church.
When the priest arrived, he walked through the house slowly.
At first, everything seemed normal.
Then he entered my room.
He stayed there for almost an hour.
When he finally came out, his expression had completely changed.
He wasn’t confused.
He was afraid.
He looked around the house, whispered something under his breath, and slowly walked downstairs.
Then he stopped.
He looked up at the ceiling above him.
The same ceiling directly beneath my bedroom.
His face turned pale.
He immediately called my parents over and spoke to them quietly.
I couldn’t hear everything…
But I saw their expressions change.
That night, my parents packed our bags.
For the first time since we moved in…
Everyone agreed on one thing.
Something was wrong with that house.
Ending Scene – The Secret Beneath The House
The next morning, my parents made a decision.
We weren’t going back.
They hired workers to inspect the area beneath my bedroom, exactly where the priest had been staring the night before.
At first, they found nothing unusual.
Then one worker noticed something strange.
“There’s something behind this ceiling.”
A small hidden door was discovered.
Everyone went silent.
When they opened it, they found an old compartment filled with forgotten objects.
Inside was a small bag of animal bones…
And a strange handmade doll hanging upside down by a thin piece of string.
I was only a child, but I still remember the fear on my parents’ faces.
That was the moment they stopped trying to explain everything logically.
We left the house that same day.
My parents sold it soon after, and we eventually moved back to the UK.
Years have passed, but I still remember that bedroom.
The shadow.
The feeling of being watched.
The things I couldn’t explain.
Maybe there was a logical answer.
Maybe there wasn’t.
But one thing I know for sure…
That house was never as empty as we thought.
The House That Was Never Empty
My family thought we had found the perfect home—a beautiful house, a fresh start, and a place filled with happy memories. But behind those walls was something we never expected, and one night changed everything we believed about that house.
Years later, I still remember the fear, the strange events, and the hidden secret that forced us to leave. Some places hold memories… and some places hold something much darker.
